US sandwich chain to open 100 UK branches
US-based café and take-away sandwich chain Quizno's has launched in the UK and has ambitious plans, promising to open more than 100 branches.
Quizno's began in 1991 in Denver, Colorado, and now has 1,200 take-aways. UK expansion is being led by Chris Moradian, master franchise holder for Canada, who has opened in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, and has recruited three more franchisees in the past few weeks, one in Brighton, East Sussex, and the other two in central London, on Shaftesbury Avenue and at Marble Arch.
Quizno's claims to be aiming for the premium end of the UK sandwich market, with a menu of 17 fillings in the style of a New York-Italian deli, but using toasted baguettes rather than the soft torpedo roll associated with submarine-style sandwiches. The average sandwich will cost £2.99. Quizno's will provide both seated and take-away service.
