A restaurateur couple in Cornwall have recruited award-winning chef Kevin Viner in a bid to achieve a Michelin star for their new venture, due to open in January.

Viner is joining David and Jane White to open Sevens in Truro as executive head chef, and the trio hope to get Cornwall's first Michelin star since Viner won the county's first ever for his Pennypots restaurant, near Falmouth, in 1994.

David White, who also runs Café Citron, and has taken over the adjacent building to launch Sevens, said: "We enjoyed Kevin's food at Pennypots and wanted to get him back, and he is very keen to get a Michelin star again."

Viner, who has been developing food for British Airways and was briefly involved in the catering operation at the Eden Project near St Austell, said: "I am very excited about creating a restaurant we can be proud of."
