Whitby cook into final of LACA school chef award

Whitby school cook Sharon Armstrong has won through to the Local Authority Caterers Association's 10th School Chef of the Year competition.

Armstrong, who is employed by the North Yorkshire County Caterers and works at Caedmon secondary school, took the East of England title to complete the final line-up of eight cooks.

They will be battling for the title on 11 March at the Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies, where celebrity chef Brian Turner will be among the judges.

Armstrong impressed the judges with her menu of Captain Cook's pasta, sweet-and-sour salad with East Coast muffin, and a dessert of Dracula's delight with Jetter biscuits (raspberry jelly with white chocolate mousse and a shortbread biscuit).

All two-course meals must be nutritious and cost less than 80p to qualify.
