Wilson takes chair at BHA council

John Wilson, chief executive of Millennium and Copthorne hotels, has been elected chairman of the British Hospitality Association council. He succeeds John Jarvis, chairman and chief executive of Jarvis Hotels.

The aim of the BHA council is to articulate the industry's views and concerns to the Government and take a lead role in industry initiatives. It comprises chief executives of key hospitality companies.

Wilson said: "After a year in which the industry was severely damaged by external events, we need to ensure that the Government understands the industry's needs and introduces measures to help it recover. In particular, there is a pressing need for more substantial funding for the British Tourist Authority to help revive the US market, while the issue of marketing England must be resolved if English tourism is not to lose market share."
