Young Scots go on to grand final
GLYN Stevens, sous chef at Edinburgh's Atrium restaurant, was last week crowned Scotland's Young Chef of the Year for 1994.
The 24-year-old, who has worked at the restaurant since it opened last June, beat challengers from the Gleneagles and Turnberry hotels, the Glasgow Hilton and 55BC restaurant at Bearsden to take the title.
Competitors were given four hours in which to prepare a meal for four from a basket of ingredients, without prior knowledge of what they would be given.
At the same event, held in Glasgow, 22-year-old Robert Hicks, of Altnaharrie Inn, Ullapool, was named 1994 Young Waiter of Scotland. He is personal assistant to the owner of the two Michelin-starred property, and was a finalist in the International Youth Skill Olympics in Taiwan last year.
Both winners of the Scottish regional heats now go forward to the grand final of the Young Chef/Young Waiter of the Year competition at Westminster College in May. The event is organised by the Restaurateurs Association of Great Britain and is sponsored by American Express and Caterer & Hotelkeeper.
