Death at the Dorchester hotel, London

Two men were arrested following the unexplained death of a man in his 40s at the Dorchester hotel in London, on Friday afternoon.

They were later bailed, pending further enquiries, to return to a central London police station in June.

Police were called to the five-red-AA-star, 250-bedroom hotel at 5.30pm on Friday after the man was found unconscious in one of the bedrooms. He was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance crew.

A post-mortem examination held yesterday at Westminster Public Mortuary failed to determine the cause of death. The coroner has ordered further toxicology tests, which may take around eight weeks.

Next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson for the Dorchester said: "With regret we can confirm the death of a guest at the hotel on Friday 1 May. We are unable to provide any further details at this time as the matter is in the hands of the police. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased."

Last year, the Dorchester was the victim of two smash and grab robberies when gangs of men stole a number of items from display cabinets in the hotel's lobby.
