Combe Grove Manor is third property to be sold by the Hotel Collection

One of the sisters behind the Scarlet hotel and the Bedruthan Steps hotel in Cornwall has acquired Combe Grove Manor hotel in Bath, for a price in excess of the £4.5m guide price.

Rebecca Whittington has reunited with Simon Baldwin, who worked as development director at Red Hotels, the parent company of the Scarlet and Bedruthan Steps, until 2011, to buy the four-AA-star, 42-bedroom hotel from the Hotel Collection. Both the Scarlet and Bedruthan Steps - run by Whittington and her sisters, Emma Stratton and Debbie Wakefield - are renowned for their strong eco-friendly credentials.

It was announced in January that Combe Grove was one of five properties to be offloaded by the Hotel Collection as the company looked to streamline its 21-strong portfolio. Combe Grove is the third of the five to be sold following the sale, a fortnight ago, of the Palace hotel in Buxton and the Basingstoke Country hotel to Britannia Hotels in a deal thought to total £12.5m.

Located just over one mile from the centre of Bath, the Grade II-listed Georgian country house is set within 69 acres of grounds and comprises a drawing room, library, restaurant, bar and brasserie. It also has a members' leisure club with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, gym and fitness suite, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, and a 21 bay golf driving range.

Whittington said: "Combe Grove is a unique and magical place, which we hope with care, creativity and investment will become a venue that both locals and visitors will enjoy."

The sale was negotiated by property company Savills.
