AccorHotels to open Ibis Styles hotel in Glasgow

AccorHotels will be expanding its UK portfolio by opening its first Ibis Styles hotel in Glasgow later this year.

Rory MacAleece has been appointed as the general manager of the new 101-bedroom, eight-storey property which will be managed by Glasgow-based Redefine|BDL Hotels.

Costing £7m to develop, the hotel will be situated in the Merchant City and will occupy the formerly abandoned Telfer House building. It is expected to open in the autumn.

MacAleece has more than 20 years' experience in the industry and will be joining from Edinburgh boutique hotel Nira Caledonia, where he started as general manager in July 2013.

The contemporary interior of the Ibis Styles hotel has been designed with the Glaswegian personality and sense of humour in mind. It will pay tribute to the Duke of Wellington's infamous cone hat, Buchanan Street's recognisable Police Box and a Scottish favourite, Tunnock's Teacakes.

MacAleece said: "The premium budget hotel market is absolutely booming in Glasgow at the moment so it's fantastic to be heading up one of the city's most exciting new hotels.

"We have a fantastic central location which I hope will attract a large number of leisure guests looking for a modern, stylish and fun stay in Glasgow. We also hope to capitalise on the market's buoyant corporate trade and become a must-stay destination for international business travellers."

Steven Foster, divisional director at Redefine|BDL Hotels, said: "Breathing new life into a dilapidated building on our doorstep makes this project extra special, and it's great to work with AccorHotels as it brings its first Ibis Styles branded hotel to the city."
