Seafish launches campaign to attract young workers to the industry
Seafish, the industry authority on seafood, has launched a campaign to attract young career seekers, emphasising the opportunity to travel and competitive wages.
Named the World is Your Oyster, the campaign hopes to capture the imagination of young people aged between 16 and 24.
According to Seafish, young people could be attracted by some of the perks and qualifications linked to careers in the industry, such as the potential to travel the world promoting seafood or learning survival skills while working on a fishing vessel.
Through case studies and a film, the stories of several young people working in the seafood industry have been highlighted on the organisation's website.
Emma Moffat, a fish buyer for seafood supplier Icelandic, said: "I've travelled to Iceland, Holland and Brussels, along with numerous trips to Aberdeen and Peterhead. In the coming year I'm hoping to spend time in Norway and Canada to gain an increased knowledge of fish sourcing on a more global scale."
As well as launching the new campaign, Seafish is working with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to develop new Trailblazer Apprenticeships for the seafood industry.
