Hotelier disqualified for employing illegal workers
The boss of a Blackpool hotel has been disqualified for seven years for employing illegal workers, following an investigation by the Home Office and the Insolvency Service.
Gulam Saber Malek, 48, a director of Bayeswater Ltd trading as the Stretton hotel in Blackpool from 27 December 2010 to 5 April 2013, was found on 9 October 2012 to be employing five staff who were ineligible to work in the UK.
The business went into liquidation in April 2013 with debts of £139,622, including a £25,000 fine imposed by Home Office Immigration and Enforcement for employing illegal workers.
Malek, of Birmingham, has been banned from acting as a company director or managing or in any way controlling a limited company until 2023.
The Disqualification Order was obtained on 23 April at Birmingham District Registry. Neither Malek nor any appointed counsel attended the proceedings.
