Hospitality professionals rewarded in Queen's Birthday Honours
Food, drink and hospitality professionals have been recognised in the Queen's 90th Birthday Honours, ranging from the leaders in industry bodies and millionaire entrepreneurs to fish and chip shop founders and a kitchen steward in the House of Commons.
In total 13 people from the industry received honours from the Queen.
Hospitality Industry Training chairman John Hyde received a CBE for services to further education and training, while Food and Drink Exporters Association director Sandra Sullivan, also a director of PS-8, received an MBE for services to the food industry.
Innocent Drinks co-founder Richard Reed received a CBE for services to the food industry and to charity.
Eric Miller, kitchen steward at the House of Commons, is one of the lesser-known honourees. He received a British Empire Medal for catering services to the House of Commons.
An OBE was awarded to Shirley Spear, founder of the Three Chimneys restaurant on the Isle of Skye and chair of the Scottish Food Commission, for services to the food and drink industry in Scotland.
Staying north of the border, BrewDog founders Alan Dickie and James Watt both received MBEs for services to the brewing industry, while Frankie's Fish and Chips director Valerie Johnson had her contribution to the food and drink industry in Shetland acknowledged with a British Empire Medal.
MBEs were awarded to two well-known figures in the emerald isle with Issam Horshi, managing director of the White Horse hotel, recognised for services to the tourism industry in Northern Ireland and former manager of Belfast's Europa hotel and County Down's Slieve Donard hotel John Toner was rewarded for services to hospitality and tourism in Northern Ireland.
Hertfordshire Catering chief executive Lin O'Brien was rewarded with an MBE for her services to education.
Romy's Kitchen founder Romy Gill was awarded an MBE for services to the hospitality industry, while Love Drinks founder and managing director Kirsty Loveday received the British Empire Medal for services to the drinks industry.
