Gladwin brothers close the Fat Badger in Richmond

The Gladwin brothers have closed their Richmond restaurant the Fat Badger having been "unable to make the site profitable".

Oliver and Richard Gladwin had opened the south London restaurant in 2021. The pair also operate the Shed in Notting Hill, Rabbit in Chelsea, Black Lamb in Wimbledon and Sussex in Soho under the Local & Wild group

Announcing the closure on Instagram, chef-director Oliver and his restaurateur brother Richard said: "It has been a difficult decision but after two years' trading, we have been unable to make the site profitable and we are just too small a business to support the losses.

"We have made many friends in the vibrant Richmond community. It has been a pleasure to host your birthdays, brunches, and Sunday lunches, as well as selling great British seasonal produce in our farm shop. All our staff have been transferred into other sites and we thank them for their hard work."

The brothers launched the restaurant group with the opening of the Shed in 2012 and expanded it to six sites. In 2022, the group closed its Battersea restaurant Nutbourne after six years of operation.

All the brothers' restaurants use produce from Gregory's Sussex farm alongside foraged ingredients, while sustainability and seasonality are at the heart of their menus.

Despite the Fat Badger's closure, the Gladwin's are still set to expand the business. In the same post in which they announced the closure of Fat Badger, the brothers teased "an exciting new project in the pipeline that we are eager to unveil".
