London Mayor launches post-referendum #LondonIsOpen campaign
Newly elected London mayor Sadiq Khan has launched a global campaign to encourage visitors and investment to the capital, following the EU referendum.
The campaign, #LondonIsOpen, features leading figures from business, sport, politics and the arts. Hospitality firms like Hilton and Merlin Entertainments are involved, as well as the City of London, Sir Richard Branson, and celebrities including Jude Law and One Direction's Niall Horan.
Khan urged businesses, Londoners and other organisations to show their support for the welcome message via social media.
"London is the best city in the world. It is creative, international, entrepreneurial and full of opportunities. I'm incredibly proud to be Mayor of a city that's so comfortable with its diversity and so optimistic about its future," Khan told the http://www.standard.co.uk/news/mayor/london-is-still-open-for-business-despite-brexit-mayor-launches-londonisopen-campaign-a3298211.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">Evening Standard.
"We don't simply tolerate each others' differences, we celebrate them. Many people from all over the globe live and work here, contributing to every aspect of life in our city.
"We now need to make sure that people across London, and the globe, hear that #LondonIsOpen. I urge everybody to get involved with this simple but powerful campaign to send a positive message to the world."
London was one of the few areas of England that voted Remain in the EU referendum on 23 June. Khan's campaign won the immediate backing of Prime Minister Theresa May, as well as former London mayor, now foreign secretary, Boris Johnson.
