UK WorldSkills 2011 bid document sent to judging committee

Skills Minister Phil Hope has put the seal on the UK's bid to host WorldSkills 2011 by posting the official document at the House of Commons Post Office.

The minister was presented with the bid by former WorldSkills competitor Adam Pierson, 24, a chef de partie at London's Claridge's hotel.

Last year's prestigious WorldSkills competition was held in Helsinki, Finland, and attracted more than 700 international competitors from many vocational disciplines.

Hope said: "An event on this scale in the UK will generate huge excitement and media interest in skills."

The decision on who will host WorldSkills 2011 will be announced on 10 May. The UK is going up against Sweden, Australia and France.
