GuestHouse group buys Margate hotel

GuestHouse has acquired the Sands hotel in Margate with plans to relaunch the property as a GuestHouse hotel later this year.

Local press has reported Nick Conington sold the hotel for £2.8m and that staff said they were informed they will be made redundant after 17 April for the property to undergo a major refurbishment.

Brothers James, Tristan and Tom Guest launched the hotel brand with the reopening of No 15 Great Pulteney last year, which they bought from Ian and Christa Taylor in 2019.

This was followed by No 1 Clifton, a Grade II-listed Regency townhouse in York, which opened last year, while a Brighton outpost is expected to open next year at No 124 Kingsroad, a neoclassical, Georgian-style building on the seafront.

The upscale brand is a collection of historic buildings in city centre locations with ‘colourful and creative' characters and interiors by British designers.
