Higher Ground and Cedar Tree by Hrishikesh Desai among September additions to Michelin Guide

Fifteen restaurants, including Higher Ground in Manchester and Cedar Tree by Hrishikesh Desai in Brampton, have been added to the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland's selection this month.

The red book updates its recommendations monthly based on its inspector's travels, with any new additions highlighted with a ‘New' symbol.

It will not be confirmed if the additions will receive a Michelin star, Bib Gourmand, or other award until the next formal Michelin Guide ceremony, which is likely to be early next year.

Higher Ground was praised for its "warm, welcoming and thoroughly enjoyable" atmosphere, which has been cultivated by three friends "who lead the cheery, well-organised service themselves".

Homestead Cottage in Doolin also received a special mention from Michelin for its "refreshingly uncomplicated dishes" that boast the best of Irish produce, which range from blackberries to locally landed plaice.

Other new additions included the Cedar Tree by Hrishikesh Desai at the Farlam Hall hotel in Brampton, where the chef patron hopes to serve "very honest" food that has a "story behind every dish", and British contemporary restaurant Maene in London's Spitalfields, which is Amber Francis' first opening as head chef.

Asma Khan's Darjeeling Express, which reopened in its "spiritual home", Kingly Court in London's Carnaby, was also among the September additions.
