Birmingham to get a second Hotel Indigo

A second Hotel Indigo - the boutique brand from InterContinental Hotels (IHG) - is to open in Birmingham.

The 61-bedroom Hotel Indigo Birmingham-Waterloo Street will be located within the the Colmore Row conversion area of the city centre and will be managed by Rustic Pine Developments Limited.

IHG's chief development officer in Europe, Robert Shepherd, announced the hotel, alongside the first Hotel Indigo for Barcelona, saying that 2012 has been a strong year for signings of the brand in the region.

"Since introducing the brand to Europe in 2009, we've opened nine hotels - seven in the United Kingdom and two in Germany," he said.

UK signings of the brand this year include the first Hotel Indigo in Wales, the Hotel Indigo Cardiff, and a third property in Scotland, Hotel Indigo Edinburgh-Princes Street.

Shepherd said the brand was proving popular with developers in Europe as the flexible approach to design for Hotel Indigo makes it ideal for conversion properties, which are easier to finance than new-build properties, and can become operational sooner. He added that guests are attracted to the brand because it combines the individuality of a boutique hotel with a design which reflects the local area, combined with the reliability and support of a big hotel company.

All Hotel Indigo properties in Europe include a restaurant and bar, and offer free Wi-Fi, 24-hour room service and access to a 24-hour fitness centre.

Alongside the seven Hotel Indigos already in the UK (Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, London Paddington, London Tower Hill, Newcastle), an eighth will launch by the end of the year in Earl's Court.

Globally, there are 46 Hotel Indigo properties and a further 52 under development.
