Green light for yacht-inspired hotel in Southampton
Planning permission has been granted for the development of a 76-bedroom luxury hotel and spa - resembling a super yacht - overlooking the waterfront at the Ocean Village Marina in Southampton.
The five-star Southampton hotel & spa, along with 82 apartments, will be developed by the Nicolas James Group, owner of Harbour Hotels, in a joint venture with MDL Marinas.
Featuring a spa, gym and swimming pool, as well as a restaurant and Champagne roof terrace, the hotel will sit alongside a new retail and restaurant arcade at the marina, where it is hoped Alex Aitken, who currently runs the Jetty restaurant within the grounds of the Christchurch Harbour hotel, will oversee a second restaurant.
Chairman of Nicolas James Grout, Nicolas Roach, said Southampton lacks a five-star hotel and the new development will deliver a luxury property.
Harbour Hotels currently owns five hotels including the Christchurch Harbour hotel and the Kings hotel, both in Christchurch, Dorset; St Ives Harbour hotel in Cornwall; Salcombe Harbour hotel and the Sidmouth Harbour hotel, both in Devon.
MDL owns and operates 19 UK marinas and boatyards situated across the south-west, south and east coasts, and along the River Thames.
