Premier Inn plots major London expansion drive

Budget hotel chain Premier Inn has plans to double its size in London by 2016.

The company said it would embark on a major expansion drive in the capital with over 50% rooms growth in the next two years.

Premier Inn will be opening 20 new hotels, with 3,245 rooms, over the next 24 months across London in locations such as Leicester Square, Blackfriars, Old Street, Holborn and Islington, creating 1,000 new jobs.

Premier Inn claims to be the largest provider of budget hotels within the M25 area with 51 hotels and 6,127 bedrooms.

The company's newest hotel, the 267-bedroom Premier Inn London Stratford, was officially opened today by Whitbread chairman Anthony Habgood and managing director Patrick Dempsey.

Patrick Dempsey, managing director Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, said: "Our exciting growth in London means that we can offer even more people a great night's sleep in the best locations when visiting the capital. We are also delighted to be bringing investment to London whilst creating 1,000 new jobs."
