Relais & Châteaux to expand hotel and restaurant portfolio

Relais & Châteaux plans to expand its portfolio of hotels by taking on one property in each of the world's major cities.

Until now the sales and reservations consortia has been dominated by luxury hotels and restaurants in rural locations. The Connaught in London and the Hotel Raphael, Rome, are the first of a new breed of city hotels to be represented by the group.

"We want to establish properties in all of the world's most important cities which will be the gateway for Relais & Châteaux to each country," said Jaume Tàpies, who has recently appointed as international president of the consortium for a second four year term.

Relais & Chateaux also intends to extend its representation of the world's leading restaurants by joining forces with in a joint marketing alliance.

Traditions & Qualité has 148 members in 22 countries, including four properties in the UK - Gidleigh Park, Le Gavroche, Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons and the Fat Duck.

There are currently 475 members throughout 57 countries in Relais & ChÁ¢teaux.
