Starwood to build first Aloft hotel in Brussels
Starwood Hotels and Resorts's first Aloft hotel in Europe will be built in Brussels.
The 150-bedroom property will form part of a £54m mixed-use development in the centre of the city's European quarter, the company revealed at the International Hotel Investment Forum yesterday.
The announcement marks the first hotel deal for Irish property developer the Thornsett Group, which is developing the 22,500sq m site into luxury apartments, shops, a world-branded restaurant and bar.
Peter McCarthy, chief executive of Thornsett, said: "It's the first hotel but we like the brand concept and its contemporary design fits well with the development."
He added: "We are keen to continue our partnership with Aloft, it's a very exciting brand."
The hotel, which will be run on a 20-year management contract, is due to open in September 2009.
