Tim Hadcock-Mackay had ‘greater gifts'

I'm sure this is one of many letters you will have received about the sad death of Tim Hadcock-Mackay.

Your letters in last week's Caterer (10 August, page 16) reflect the feelings of many. Tim and I first met in the early 1990s, and our paths crossed many times. I much regret it'll never happen again.

I knew of his difficulties, yet neglected, blaming the pace of life, to get in touch and offer my support.

I now bitterly regret that I didn't pick up the phone and say, "Tim, you have greater gifts. It will get better."

It may not have made a difference to the outcome but at least I would have made the effort, something a real friend would have done.
