Manchester City submits plans for 400-room stadium hotel

Manchester City football club has submitted a planning application to build a 400-bedroom hotel at its Etihad Stadium.

The proposal forms part of a £300m, three-year revamp of the ground to create a "year-round entertainment and leisure destination", which could create up to 2,600 jobs.

It would see the creation of a covered fan zone with capacity for 3,000 people featuring food and drink outlets, as well as a hotel, club shop and museum.

The stadium's North Stand would be expanded with a larger upper tier to increase capacity to over 60,000, with a sky bar overlooking the pitch and a stadium roof walk experience.

LED screens approximately four-storeys high would feature on both sides of the development.

A month-long consultation was held earlier this year where fans and the local community were invited to share their feedback on concepts and designs.

Danny Wilson, managing director or Manchester City Operations, said: "Over several months we have been developing concepts and designs for a best-in-class fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination at the Etihad Stadium and are delighted to have now submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council.

"As with all Club developments, ensuring our local community benefit is a key priority and we believe these proposals will deliver long-term economic and social opportunities, building on the regeneration work delivered in East Manchester by City Football Group since 2008."

The Etihad was built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games and has been home to Manchester City since 2003.

It has been selected as one of the host venues for Euro 2028 if a joint UK and Ireland bid is successful.
