Inception Group to relaunch Mrs Fogg's as tavern concept

Inception Group is to relaunch its Mrs Fogg's Drinkery and Distillery in London's Liverpool Street under a different concept following customer feedback.

Building work on the Broadgate Circle site will begin at the end of December to transform the bar into Mr Fogg's City Tavern ahead of its reopening on 18 January.

It follows the success of the original Mr Fogg's Tavern on St Martin's Lane in Covent Garden, which opened in 2015, and the recently opened Mr Fogg's Hat Tavern in Soho.

Inception Group said customer feedback had shown there was a strong demand for a more "tavern-like experience".

Mr Fogg's City Tavern will imagine a space where Victorian traders in the square mile would have met after a long day in the city. It will include the launch of a new saloon bar space alongside a tavern filled with historical artefacts.

Multiple beers will be on draught and food will range from bar snacks and lighter bites to burgers, roasts, and weekend brunch.

An entirely new concept will open in the lower ground floor space in the early spring of 2024.

Charlie Gilkes, co-founder of Inception Group, said: "Our Mr Fogg's Tavern model has been a huge success and is a simple formula for our customers to understand.

"We create accessible eclectic Victorian-inspired taverns on the ground floor, serving pub classics alongside a high-quality cocktail offer and then we produce a more premium Mr Fogg's ‘discovery' concept housed elsewhere within the site.

"We are currently putting the finishing touches to a really exciting idea for the lower ground floor space of Mr Fogg's City Tavern which we can't wait to announce soon."

Inception Group runs nine London sites under the Mr Fogg's brand, which is is based around the life of Victorian traveller, Phileas Fogg.
