Plans submitted for 142-bedroom 'hotel for music lovers' in Glasgow

The former managing director of the Standard, London hotel has partnered with events venue SWG3 and architecture firm Stallan-Brand to submit plans for a new 142-bedroom hotel in Glasgow's Clydeside.

Bruce Robertson, who has also worked for Soho House Group and D&D London, is collaborating with the founding partners of Scottish music venue SWG3, Andrew Fleming-Brown and Andrew Mickel, to create a "hotel for music lovers".

Plans for the 13-storey development, which includes two restaurants, two bars, co-working spaces, a gym, movement studio and rooftop terrace on the corner of Eastvale Place and Sandyford Street, were submitted to Glasgow City Council last month.

The ground, first and second floors of the building will be home to creative and cultural facilities open to both hotel guests and the wider public.

Should the proposal receive approval, the hotel will take over currently disused land that was once used for industrial purposes near the city's waterfront.

Paul Stallan, design director at Stallan-Brand, said: "While the SWG3 hotel is strategically situated to support the immediate regeneration initiative, the hotel will also contribute to the ongoing success of Glasgow's 'Hydro Effect', which has seen the city become a global magnet for major music and conference events.

"As a 'hotel for music lovers', the SWG3 team are excited to expand their programme with a new leisure offer that will ensure they remain more visible, vital and circular."

Robertson added: "As we take our next step towards achieving our vision, we're excited to show the unique offer of the hotel. With rooms for all budgets where taste is not measured in wallet size. We aim to not only deliver economic growth for the area but create new jobs, nurture local talent and create a world class destination."
