Royal Hotel Weymouth sold to Leisureplex Hotel Group

Leisureplex Hotel Group has acquired the Royal Hotel Weymouth for an undisclosed sum.

It is the latest property in the Coast & Country Collection to change hands after the 18-strong portfolio was put on the market in May 2023.

Leisureplex now owns 24 properties, having secured Waverly Castle hotel in Melrose, another Coast & Country Collection site, last month.

The Royal Hotel Weymouth is a 19th-century Victorian property with 71 rooms, a bar, lounge and views of the beach.

Emma Russell, managing director of Alfa Leisureplex Group, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming the Royal hotel in Weymouth to the Leisureplex Hotel Group and we are looking forward to welcoming general manager Denise and her team to our employee-owned family.

"Our customers have been requesting that we offer a Leisureplex hotel in Weymouth for a number of years, so it is great that we can finally fulfil this wish with the purchase of one of the finest hotels in Weymouth."

She added the group is continuing to expand its range of destinations in the UK and has also launched a multimillion-pound refurbishment programme across its existing estate.

Ed Belfield, regional director in Christie & Co's hotel team, who acted for the seller, commented: "The sale of the Royal hotel represented an exceptional opportunity to acquire a successful hotel business with significant repeat patronage. We congratulate Alfa Leisureplex Group on their purchase of an iconic south coast resort hotel."
