Rainforest Alliance coffee from Drury
A new Rainforest Alliance coffee brings to 16 the number of espresso coffee blends specially developed for the professional caterer available from the Drury Tea and Coffee Company.
Caffé Cuidado is blended from 75% Rainforest Alliance coffees plus other top-quality beans and is described by Drury's head roaster, Mike Lindie, as "bright-tasting and well rounded, with spicy undertones throughout", making it suitable for espresso, cappuccino and all speciality coffee variants.
The company says using some non-RA coffees in the blend gives the master roaster a broader range of options in creating a more balanced, well-rounded coffee - a small compromise between quality and ethical concerns.
"Currently only a small proportion of the world's coffee crop is Rainforest Alliance-certified, and some coffee-growing areas are vastly under-represented," says Drury director Marco Olmi. "That means there are some key characteristics unique to certain areas and soils that we cannot achieve in our blend using RA coffees alone. So, at the moment, a 100% RA blend would not give the taste profile we wanted in the coffee. By adding just a small amount of non-RA coffees, we can produce a balanced blend that fulfils our twin objectives of sustainability and commercial practicality."
Caffé Cuidado has a list price of £9.40 per kg.
