Supplier press release: Banishing the winter blues with prep sun

The global credit crunch brought home to the UK caterer how exposed they are to worldwide economic trends. Rising food prices in general ensure adhering to budgets becomes a painstaking task. When it comes to looking at what oil to use, 2012 could prove to be the year of the sunflower thanks to AAK Foodservice…

A record yield of sunflowers, credit in the main part to increase yields in Russia and the Ukraine, has helped to make sunflower oil as competitive in price as rapeseed oil. As part of it's commitment to giving foodservice operators the very best choice in oils, AAK Foodservice is launching a brand new sunflower product into its Prep range of High Performance Oils.

AAK Foodservice is Europe's leading manufacturer of speciality oils and fats. For its foodservice customers AAK's PrepTM range is designed specifically with the end user in mind offering better quality between oil changes, fewer changes for a better appearance and texture and less down time and waste. This is largely down to the low absorption rate and the fact you do not have to constantly start up and discard the oil.

Packed in a 20L bottle in a box, Prep Sun is a convenient yet complex product that can be used for a number of frying applications whilst offering great benefits to both the caterer and customer.

"Frying trials were conducted at AAK and we found that sunflower oil cooked extremely well," said Rachel Neale, AAK Foodservice marketing manager. "The food on plate looked crisp and very appetising. Prep Sun allowed the flavour of the food to come through and did not mask it at all like some other oils can. We did a number of blind taste tests and our sunflower oil came out on top every time for both taste and appearance.

Fluctuating commodity prices, which usually take place under the consumer radar, have moved centre stage as a combination of supply and demand issues converge to make price increases unavoidable2. In the world of vegetable oil, its sunflower oil that's now set to take centre stage for foodservice operators.

AAK help operators to shine
When the sunshine comes, the doom and gloom of the winter months is lifted. Spirits are higher and everything seems much better. When it comes to cooking in AAK Prep Sun, operators will always be able to get the perfect summer taste guaranteed.

Rachel explained: "Our Prep Sun is very competitively priced and gives an alternative choice for customers to fry in. One reason as to why our product can be sold at such a good price is because our Prep extended sunflower oil is non-winterised. This means that it has not been chilled and filtered, and so it looks cloudy in appearance when cold, similar to that of Olive Oils. However, on gentle warming, this disappears instantly and the oil cooks in exactly the same way. This is a natural occurring property of the oil and does not affect it in any way.

This extended Sunflower Oil is a fantastic new addition to the Prep range of High Performance Oils as it acts on the brand promise of offering an oil type for every caterers needs. This product gives our customers the option of frying in an alternative oil that we have never previously offered, giving even more versatility to the range.
