Unilever Food Solutions releases roast guide
In honour of British Roast Dinner Week 2016, Unilever Food Solutions has released a new roast guide to help pubs perfect their Sunday offerings.
British Roast Dinner Week, which aims to encourage pubs to serve roasts every day, starts on 26 September.
Running alongside the week, pubs can enter the British Roast Dinner competition. The winner will claim the title for Britain's Best Roast Dinner, and win £10,000 in PR support. The deadline for entries is 20 September. The winner will be announced at the end of the week.
The guide was created with help from Chris Barber, Unilever's pub food expert, and contains hints, tips and insights about the best Sunday roasts, from creating theatre at the table, to seasonal ingredients and gravy recipes.
Barber said: "Roast dinners offer real profit potential for pubs. Being known for a great roast pulls in a bigger crowd and some pubs have even found that punters spend as much as 20% more when they buy a roast. But to feel the benefits, pubs will need to be at the top of their game. That's exactly why we've released a new beefed up roast guide."
Unilever claim that roast dinners are the number one pub meal with diners eating more than one billion a year.
Previous winners of the British Roast Dinner competition have seen an increase in sales: the Endeavour in Chelmsford saw a 100% increase in the number of roasts sold and the White Bull in Alston saw a 10% rise in profits.
Last year's winner, the Larwood and Voce's general manager Dan Cramp, said: "Winning Best British Roast Dinner has done wonders for us. Before we were shortlisted, we averaged about 170 covers on a Sunday. We now have over 270 covers Sunday after Sunday."
