The Barkby Group buys luxury used car dealership

Gastropub operator the Barkby Group has acquired a luxury used car dealership, Centurian Automotive, to complement it's "existing high-end offering".

The group, previously known as Sovereign Mines of Africa, operates four pubs in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and West Sussex, with plans to grow to eight to 12 sites in the next few years.

Northamptonshire-based Centurian recorded a turnover of £5.6m in the year ended 31 March 2018 with pre-tax profits of £123,000.

Rupert Fraser, chief executive of Barkby, said: "The acquisition of Centurian reflects our ambition to make strategic acquisitions that complement our existing portfolio. We continue to build our presence in areas where we see opportunities for value creation.

"Centurian has a reputation for offering its clients hand-picked cars prepared to extreme detail and this, coupled with its fast-growing digital presence, makes it a highly exciting growth story."
