About 23,000 soldiers deployed in a massive military exercise in Oman last year may have encountered problems with malfunctioning rifles, but they had no complaints about the food, according to a report to Parliament last week.

Supplier 3663 travelled more than 135,000 miles to deliver 400 containers of food during the Saif Sareea II desert exercise. The report said: "The provision of food during the exercise was a success and its overall quality was excellent."

The Ministry of Defence has extended its five-year contract with 3663, worth £100m a year, by a further two years. The company supplies food to the British Armed Forces throughout the world.
