3663 launches local food project

Food service wholesaler 3663 has launched a scheme to help caterers source local produce.

The initiative allows chefs to buy regional produce at food hubs that the supplier has set up to channel regional produce through to caterers.

Julie Moore, 3663 marketing controller, said: "Chefs prefer to use local ingredients but it has always been hard to make this a financially viable option. We have found a way of handling local produce which limits additional costs."

The project is being piloted in Suffolk and will be rolled out across the UK this year.
