Aer Lingus staff stage one-day strike

Aer Lingus catering staff were due to hold a 24-hour strike today (2 November) following a breakdown in talks between workers and the airline.

The 400 staff placed pickets at Dublin airport this morning. Industrial action will continue until the dispute over low pay, which has been continuing for the past few weeks, is resolved (Caterer, 19 October, page 4).

Negotiator Clare Daly, of the Services, Industrial, Professional & Technical Union, said: "The workers are very angry."

Aer Lingus is demanding drastic changes in working conditions, including a 5am start for the early shift, in return for increased pay rates.
