Agencies come together to provide training in East End

HYGIENE in the Indian restaurants of London's East End has been given a boost with the launch of a special course developed by the Hotel & Catering Training Company (HCTC), and funded by Bethnal Green City Challenge and the London East Training and Enterprise Council.

In May, 68 staff from restaurants in Brick Lane passed the course, which was conducted in Bengali and English. Damien Nolan, of the HCTC in Docklands, said many on the programme had had little or no training before. Delivering the course in Bengali helped the staff feel at ease in an unfamiliar situation.

He said the dual-language approach might be extended to other training courses such as health and safety and customer care.
