Brunning and Price opens the Sparrowhawk in Formby
Brunning and Price, the Restaurant Group-owned pub company, has opened the Sparrowhawk in Formby, Lancashire.
It is the group's fourth opening this year and follows the acquisition of the Inn at Shipley, Wolverhampton, and the opening of Worsley Old Hall in Greater Manchester after a five-month refurbishment.
The Sparrowhawk in Formby was the family property of the Duke of Bridgewater. It is believed that the Bridgewater Canal was planned at the site.
Landlord David Green said: "It is a truly extraordinary building with some six wings, which have been added over the centuries. Many later additions have covered up interesting original features, but we have stripped these away to reveal more of the historic character of the hall."
He added that the pub had created some 50 jobs and would be using local produce where possible.
The menu is described as being modern British and the wine list includes 60 wines. The bar has a line up of six cask ales.
Green added: "I like to think we have established a very warm, chatty and civilised atmosphere with open fires and fine old furniture: a classic English country house pub without the blight of television, loud music, gaming machines or pool tables."
