D-Day promotion

THE Department of National Heritage is to provide £1m to fund a campaign promoting the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings in June.

Half the money will go to the British Tourist Authority in the USA to encourage Americans to attend the celebrations, with the rest being used to create interest in the UK.

£12,000 safety fine

FINES totalling £12,000 with £6,600 costs were imposed on the owners of a London pub where a man died after falling down the stairs to the toilet.

Taverns of London, owner of the Wolsey Tavern in Kentish Town, was found guilty of failing to look after the safety of customers, and of failing to have a written health and safety policy.

HOTEL CONSORTIA

LAST week's article on hotel consortia, "Branding together", contained a list of the top 10 consortia in the UK that was based on research carried out in 1992.

Since then Logis of Great Britain has leapt into the top 10 with 7,196 bedrooms in 515 member hotels. Inter-Hotels has also ceased trading since the list was compiled.
