SICK PAY SWITCH

EMPLOYERS last week became liable for the full cost of statutory sick pay (SSP) when the Government abolished its 80% reimbursement of SSP.

The reimbursement was removed under the Statutory Sick Pay Act 1994, in a move designed to encourage businesses to reduce absenteeism rates.

However, small businesses paying less than £20,000 a year in national insurance contributions are able to claim 100% reimbursement if an employee is absent for more than four weeks.

towering SNACKS

SANDWICH bar chain Pràt à Manger is to open an outlet at the Tower of London and hopes to open at other historic buildings.

The 150-seat outlet will open in May on a one-year contract, with an option to renew for a further year. The company will also operate two sandwich kiosks at the Tower.
