High Court throws out claim from oil company

The High Court has dismissed a claim by Qualifry, a supplier of food oils, for nearly £120,000 in loss of profits against SFI Group. The case followed SFI's switch to a new supplier of frying oils for its chain of bars, including the Slug & Lettuce, Litten Tree and Bar Med brands. SFI denied that a three-year fixed-price, exclusive contract had been agreed with the supplier. Qualifry submitted unsigned agreements and correspondence it claimed contained the terms of binding verbal agreements. The High Court judgment described this evidence as "an attempt to encumber the defendant with a contract which had not even been proposed."
