Hotelier bids to challenge compensation

A hotel boss who was found to have sexually harassed a receptionist and was ordered to pay her more than £12,000 compensation tried to challenge the level of the award at a tribunal last week.

David Bennett, who runs the Foxbar hotel in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, said he had not known about the hearing at which it was decided how much compensation to award 22-year-old Sandra Reid, and so had not attended.

An employment tribunal originally rejected her claim but this was overturned on appeal (Caterer, 22 March, page 10).

The tribunal will issue its decision on Bennett's appeal at a later date.
