London: high prices
- Hotels are the worst thing about the UK tourist industry according to a new survey among North American leisure travellers.> Almost all of the 567 visitors questioned in the survey criticised the very high prices (especially in London), small rooms, poor service and indifferent food found in UK hotels.  In a ratings list of ten tourist attractions and amenities, restaurants came in eighth position and were also criticised for being too expensive, although an improvement in quality and variety had been noted in recent years. The top three attractions were museums, theatres, and pubs, which the visitors said offered great value for money. The survey concluded that "persuading more people to come from the US will require UK businesses to look long and hard at their pricing structures." The Internet was found to be the most effective marketing tool to attract visitors. The survey was commissioned by London Elite, an on-line guide to the capital.
