Kerry Bennett, a 15-year-old pupil from White Hart Lane School, London, won the 2001 Future Chef competition staged by Springboard UK at Westminster College last week.

The competition formed the climax of Springboard's Careers Festival 2001, and saw six young would-be chefs battle it out from schools throughout the UK. Bennett's two-course meal - tian of lamb with aubergines and peppers and a dessert of steamed orange and chocolate pudding - won him the opportunity to work alongside Gary Rhodes as the celebrity chef prepares for a forthcoming banquet at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire.

Runner-up Moray Notman, also 15, from Grantown Grammar School, Highlands, received an opportunity to spend three days with the Sodexho Culinary Team as it prepares for Hotelympia 2002 at Earls Court in February, as well as a day competing with the team at the exhibition.
