Over to you

What do you think of David Blunkett's plans to "blitz" alcohol-related violence and under-age drinking?

I totally agree that something needs to be done about it. You do find there is quite a bit of trouble at throwing-out time when pubs shut and a load of drunk people end up on the street. I think staged licensing would be a good idea: then people wouldn't think they have to drink a certain amount in a certain time.
Paul Newman, Head of marketing at Living Ventures
There is no question that alcohol fuels violence. The reason for binge-drinking is largely because you can and because of promotions. It's an aggressive industry and they are all competing. If you have promotions that say drink all you can for £10, you're asking for trouble.
Ian Mckerracher, former chief executive of the Restaurant Association
We have been working with the Government on this and we are fully behind the home secretary's determination to crack down on antisocial behaviour. The industry fully supports the prosecution of pubs who break the law.
Mark Hastings, director of communications at the British Beer and Pub Association
