Scottish and Newcastle launches lessee accountancy package

Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company (S&NPC) is to launch a new back-office pub support programme called Innside Track, which provides a monthly accountancy and stock-taking package to all new lessees.

After their first year in business, operators will have the choice to opt out of Innside Track and to employ other suppliers who can provide accountancy and stock-taking services.

S&NPC said the package was designed to ensure that operators have up-to-date financial and sales information to allow them to make "well-informed, sound business decisions while freeing them up to focus on vital customer-facing areas such as front of house and marketing".

Simon Grant, national recruitment manager for S&NPC, said the new support programme also addressed lessees' growing frustration at the increasing amount of administration they have to deal with.

"The last decade has seen a huge increase in the amount of red tape and legislation that licensees have to handle. Our research shows that lessees want to spend less time in the back office on the computer and more time doing the things they came into the industry to do - developing great pubs and interacting with their customers. Innside Track will help them to manage their stock-taking and accounts more easily, enabling them to focus more on their front of house," he said.

S&NPC has negotiated rates with four companies to perform the services. "We want our lessees to succeed. Poor accounting and stock-taking are the two most common reasons for failure in the first year of business; getting controls in place from the start is critical to establishing firm foundations for the future," Grant said.
