Sharp's expands brewing capacity
Cornish-based brewer Sharp's is to increase its brewing capacity by 300 brewer's barrels per week, after taking delivery of two new fermenting vessels.
The news comes just a few weeks after brewing giant Molson Coors bought the business in a deal thought to be worth around £20m.
The investment, worth around £125,000, means brewing capacity has now been increased by 1,100 firkins.
Last year, Sharp's produced a total of 70,000 brewer's barrels of Doom Bar.
Commenting on the move, Stuart Howe, head brewer at Sharp's Brewery said: "This is an exciting time for the brewery. It means planned growth for Doom Bar and the other Sharp's beer brands can now be supported."
"We have ambitious plans for Doom Bar: we'd like it to be one of the top three cask beers in the UK in the future and this increase in capacity will help us get there, as well as ensuring we can brew all the Sharp's beers drinkers know and love," he added.
Last year saw sales of Sharp's flagship beer, Doom Bar, rise 51% compared with 2009.
