Three charged with theftof cheques

A FORMER director of London-based contract caterer Albert Abela & Company last week appeared in court charged with theft.

Johnson Kane was charged jointly with two former Bromley Council social services directors with the theft of two cheques totalling £11,500.

It is believed Mr Kane is also facing a civil action from Albert Abela & Company, although the firm's solicitor declined to comment. Mr Kane is now unemployed.

Albert Abela & Company had previously been under investigation by the Fraud Squad in connection withthe contracting out of the management of Bromley Borough Council old people's homes.

However, the company is no longer under suspicion. It tendered for a contract, but was not awarded one.

Monty Blazey, former chairman of the social services committee, is also no longer under investigation. He was released from police bail in March.
