Manchester's Palace hotel to create 121 new jobs

The jobs will be across all levels and departments and include positions for room attendants, engineers, receptionists, sales staff and concierges, as well as within the new restaurant and bars, which are due to open in the summer.

Improvements across the hotel, originally built as the headquarters of the Refuge Assurance Company in 1895, is part of the £200m investment in Project 1898, a new brand of iconic city centre hotels owned by Starwood Capital. Work has already been completed on the Royal York hotel in York and the George hotel in Edinburgh, while the renovation of the Hotel Russell in London is yet to get under way.

The hotel's campaign to recruit staff is called 121 for 121 to reflect the property's anniversary. A range of apprenticeships and work placement opportunities will also be launched.

Matt Townley, hotel manager at the Palace hotel, said: "This is the start of an exciting new chapter in the history of one of Manchester's most distinctive and best-loved buildings - and we firmly believe that these new jobs will create opportunities for a diverse group of people who call Manchester their home."

The new look Palace hotel is being created by interior design company Michaelis Boyd.
