Grantley Hall in North Yorkshire to open spring 2019

The opening of Grantley Hall as a luxury, 47-bedroom country house hotel has been confirmed as spring 2019.

Located near Ripon in North Yorkshire on its own private island with a lake and listed Japanese garden, the historic Grade II*-listed property is currently undergoing a multimillion-pound restoration and extension.

The Yorkshire-based Sykes family, owners of the building, and general manager Andrew McPherson, previously general manager of Lucknam Park in Colerne, Wiltshire, are overseeing the development.

The hotel will have seven drinking and dining venues including a fine-dining restaurant, pan-Asian restaurant and Champagne and cocktail bar, as well as a wedding and banqueting suite, a number of private events spaces and a spa.

An academy will provide an on-site learning and development for hotel staff.

Grantley Hall was built by Thomas Norton and his son Fletcher Norton, first Baron Grantley, in the 17th century, based on a Palladian design by English architect Isaac Ware.

The house was put up for sale for £6m in 2013 and was bought by the Sykes family in 2015 under a company set up by Valeria Sykes, who is known locally for her involvement in conservation and restoration projects such as Studley Royal House and the Duck House Conservation Estate.

McPherson said: "We believe [Grantley Hall] will offer one of the UK's most exceptional five-star luxury country house retreat experiences, combining rich heritage and 17th century splendour with beautiful contemporary design and state-of-the-art facilities, all set in the tranquil surroundings of the Yorkshire countryside."
