The Curious Incident of Brewdog and the Trump line – PR blamed for 'free beers for president's fans' scheme

Scofflaw, a US brewing brand, had scheduled events in Brewdog bars to launch their drinks partnership with the Punk IPA creators.

However yesterday a PR for the US brewers, whose motto is "There's a little dissent in everything we do", said they would be offering free beer exclusively to Trump supporters. Brewdog were reportedly unaware of the offer.

Brewdog owner James Scott tweeted: "Everyone. We had no idea about the Scofflaw press release or the plans they announced today for the events.

"We in no way aligned with their position and we will of course be cancelling all the events and sending all of the beer back."

An additional statement on the brand's official Twitter account added: "The Scofflaw release was announced without our knowledge or consent.

"We care about beer and people. Not hate."

Scofflaw, a term used during the prohibition era for those who flouted the ban on alcohol, have a rebellious streak similar to Brewdog. Based in Atlanta Georgia, the brand released a statement claiming their promotion was part of their ambition to "get the UK beered up redneck style".

However last night they denied any involvement to The Caterer. A statement has since claimed a member of the PR firm Franks has been suspended over the incident.

A Scofflaw spokesperson said: "We never saw or approved a copy of the release that was circulated.

"This has been an extremely frustrating and disappointing process for us. We welcome everyone. We love everyone. We just want to make good beer."

In a statement, a Franks PR spokesperson added: "On 27th September, a statement was released to media by an individual employee of Frank without Scofflaw's approval.

"The reputation of our client is of utmost importance and we are taking this matter seriously.

"The employee has been suspended while an investigation takes place. We apologise to Scofflaw, BrewDog and anyone that may have been offended by these actions."
