The brother-sister team behind pop-up Nigerian tapas concept Chuku’s are set to begin crowdfunding for their first bricks and mortar site.
Co-founders Emeka and Ifeyinwa Frederick have operated the brand in pop-up locations for the last three years earning awards and praise from the likes of Labour shadow home secretary Diane Abbott – who called their food “the best Nigerian food [to be] had in any restaurant”.
The brand’s majority vegetarian and vegan small plate dishes are centred on Nigerian ingredients and cooking styles, such as Jollof Quinoa, Plantain waffles and Suya meatballs.
Emeka, a former strategy consultant, will lead the back of house having worked for the likes of Morito and the Savoy hotel, while Ifeyinwa – formerly of Yard Sale Pizza – will oversee operations.
The 30-day crowdfunding exercise, which begins on 2 May, aims to raise £30k on crowdfunder.co.uk, rewards will include invitations to the site’s opening celebration evening and unlimited Nigerian tapas discount cards.
