Worcestershire couple buy Somerset pub

A couple from Worcestershire have bought the Anchor Inn, the last surviving pub in the tiny hamlet of Combwich near Bridgwater, North Somerset.

Parts of the two-storey freehouse date back to the 15th century and the inn has an Art Deco-style front elevation that reflects its nautical theme.

The new owners are David and Mandy Nicklin from Worcestershire and their son Matthew, who is a qualified chef.

Along with a snug bar, a lounge bar and an enclosed beer garden with four pub benches, the Anchor Inn has a skittle alley which the Nicklins have converted to double as a restaurant (from Friday to Sunday) and a function room for the rest of the week.

They are also considering converting outbuildings into letting accommodation.

Property agent Bettesworths sold the freehold off an asking price of £440,000.
